Leaders of Da Nang City receive Singaporean Ambassador to Viet Nam

On July 20, Member of the Central Party Committee, Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee Nguyen Van Quang had a meeting with Mr. Jaya Ratnam, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Singapore to Viet Nam.

Mr. Nguyen Van Quang congratulated Mr. Jaya Ratnam on his appointment as Singaporean Ambassador to Viet Nam and informed him the socio-economic situation of Da Nang in recent years and the City's development goals in the near future. The Secretary hoped that the Ambassador would help promote positive cooperation in investment, trade, and tourism between Viet Nam and Singapore and between Da Nang and its Singaporean partners. In 2023, to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Viet Nam – Singapore diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership establishment, the Secretary of the City Party Committee hopes the two countries will have meaningful activities including the promotion and connection of investment cooperation, trade, tourism, education, and healthcare.

At the meeting, Ambassador Jaya Ratnam expressed his impressions of the development and beauty of Da Nang as well as the hospitality and friendliness of the local people. According to the Ambassador, Singapore and Da Nang have many similarities such as strong investment in infrastructure development, developing high-quality human resources, and especially the City leaders’ direction to accelerate the implementation of administrative reform, digital transformation, and green economic growth.

Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Trung Chinh also had a meeting with Ambassador Jaya Ratnam. According to the City Chairman, in the first half of 2022, Da Nang has been one of the localities of Viet Nam with a relatively fast economic recovery, gradually regaining growth momentum after two years being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The City's economy in the first 6 months of the year grew by 7.23% and the budget revenue reached nearly 70% of the estimate.

Chairman Le Trung Chinh said that currently, Singapore is an important investment partner of Da Nang with 31 projects worth over 838.6 million USD, ranking the second among more than 50 countries and territories investing in the City and accounting for about 22% of total registered investment capital, in which the Hi-Tech Park and other industrial parks currently have 7 investment projects from Singapore with total investment capital of 463 million USD. Chairman Le Trung Chinh hoped Ambassador Jaya Ratnam would continue to introduce Singaporean investors and businesses with financial and technological capabilities to explore investment opportunities in Da Nang as well as to support Da Nang businesses in expanding investment and business and exporting goods to Singapore’s market to take advantage of Viet Nam's wide network of free trade agreements with countries in the region.
