On April 8, The Ambassador of Finland to Viet Nam – H.E. Kari Kahiluoto visited Da Nang.
At the meeting with the Da Nang People’s Committee, Vice-Chairman Ho Ky Minh highly appreciated the effective cooperation between Da Nang City and its Finnish partners, especially with the city of Salo and many enterprises in the IT sector. With the hope that Viet Nam and partner countries will successfully control the COVID-19 epidemic in 2021, the Vice-Chairman emphasized that Da Nang will dedicate resources worthy to restart international cooperation programs and activities, including programs with partners from Finland.
Minh said Da Nang would prioritize resources for high-tech industries and IT which are hoped to set the pathway to becoming the leading smart city in Viet Nam. The City urges support, especially technological solutions, from its Finnish partners. Due to difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the People’s Committee of Da Nang City suggested that the two sides expedite more online conferences and workshops between the Da Nang IT community and Finnish technology corporations. Through these events, the Vice-Chairman hoped that Finnish businesses would find investment opportunities in Da Nang, especially in Software Park No. 2, with a total area of 90,000 m2, expected to come into operation in early 2022.
Ambassador Kahiluoto said that this was a very informative visit to Da Nang and thanks to the Department of Information and Communications, Department of Foreign Affairs, and City Institute for Socio-Economic Development Research he has been updated on Da Nang’s needs for development. The Ambassador pledged to convey this information to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland to expedite new cooperation programs with Da Nang, especially technologies transfers. Additionally, Ambassador Kahilouto said the Embassy of Finland would support Da Nang with access to loans for high-tech development and smart tourism from the Government of Finland for years to come.
The Finnish Ambassador hoped the City would allow Finnish businesses to bid for the treatment solutions at the Solid Waste Treatment Facility of Da Nang City. He stressed that it is an example of the transfer of smart environment solutions between Finland and Da Nang
In the field of tourism, the two sides agreed to expedite smart tourism development cooperation programs. The Finnish side is also interested in helping Da Nang develop a proposal for yacht studies and manufacturing. The two sides are committed to maintain cooperative activities, allocate resources to restore high-level delegation exchanges, connect businesses, and encourage more person-to-person activities as soon as each country has completely controlled the COVID-19 epidemic.
