During the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Cong Tien assessed that the implementation of the cooperative relationship between Da Nang and Sakai has taken place very successfully since the two sides signed the “Declaration of friendship city affiliation between Sakai, Japan and Da Nang, Viet Nam” in 2019. Many specific exchange programs have been conducted by the two sides such as Da Nang sending athletes to participate in the International Marathon in Sakai in 2019; a painting exhibition by elementary school students from Da Nang held in Sakai; and the delegation of Deputy Mayors of Sakai City attending the Viet Nam - Japan Cultural Exchange Festival 2019. In particular, the program Local Government Officials Training Programme (LGOTP) jointly implemented by the CLAIR organization and Sakai City has created favorable conditions for one Da Nang official to come to Japan to exchange working experiences. In addition, in 2020 Da Nang donated ten thousand medical masks to Sakai to help prevent the COVID-19 epidemic. Most recently, Da Nang Department of Foreign Affairs has coordinated with ASEAN Exchange Promotion Division, International Affairs Department, Culture and Tourism Bureau to organize an online exchange program between nursing staff in Sakai and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Da Nang.

In the coming time, the two cities both agreed to continue further cooperation in many fields such as cultural and student exchanges, government official training programs and exchanges of nursing staff, and preschool education experiences.

Mr. Sakaya Nobuyuki, Manager of ASEAN Exchange Promotion Division, International Affairs Department, Culture and Tourism Bureau of Sakai City, expressed his gratitude and appreciation for Da Nang's efforts in effectively coordinating and implementing cooperative programs between the two cities. Regarding cooperation in the prevention of the COVID-19 epidemic, he considered the current situation of goods transportation between Japan and Viet Nam to be difficult. However, Sakai would try their best in researching and supporting Da Nang in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic.
