U.S. Major General visits Da Nang

In the afternoon of 2ndApril 2017, the Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, Ho Ky Minh, had a meeting with Major General Steven R. Rudder, Director of Strategic Planning and Policy, U.S.Pacific Command on the occasion of his business trip in Da Nang. Ms. Mary Tarnowka,Consul General of the United States in Ho Chi Minh City and Colonel Tuan T. Ton, DefenseAttaché of the United States in Viet Nam also attended the meeting.



At the meeting, the Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee, Ho Ky Minh, briefed on the socio-economic developmentof Da Nang in recent years and its development orientation in the upcoming time.The Vice Chairman highly appreciated the effective and practical defense cooperation relations between the United States and Viet Nam in general and Da Nang in particular, especially the Human Assistance and Disaster Response programme of the Pacific Partnership hosted in Da Nang City by the U.S.Navy since 2014.


Mr. Ho Ky Minh welcomed the Cooperative Humanitarian and Medical Storage Initiative (CHAMSI) letter of intent signed in the framework of former U.S. President Obama's visitto Viet Nam in May 2016. He also hoped thatthe U.S. President as well as many potential U.S. businesses would come to Da Nang forthe Asian – Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit taking place in Da Nang in November 2017.


Major General Steven R. Rudder highly appreciated the dynamic development of Da Nang City and hoped that by this visit, the two sides would continue to enhance thiscooperative relationship, especially with experience exchange in disaster response, as well as search and rescue to enhance the good relations between the two countries' armies in particular and the two governments in general.
