Opening the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee explained the overview of investment in the city and trends in ODA use. In his speech, he mentioned that Da Nang City has completed many ODA projects such as Tien Sa Seaport, Hai Van Tunnel, the city sanitation project and so on. Vice Chairman Tuan conveyed the city's appreciation for the valuable support of foreign partners that helped to enrich the city's infrastructure system to its current status.
In addition to the completed projects, at this point in time, Da Nang City has nine remarkable and potential infrastructure projects calling for investment under ODA or PPP (Public Private Partnership). For example, Lien Chieu Port Development Project, Railway Removal and Urban Redevelopment Project, Solid Waste Treatment Complex Project and six other effective projects that will attract investors' interest in the future.
Guest speakers who have contributed finance and expertise to some projects in Da Nang City such as World Bank, JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency), ADB (Asia Development Bank) and Yokohama City briefed their experience in conducting projects with Da Nang as well as proposed further recommendations for the city on how to utilize the sources of investment in the next phase of development.
In the speech by Mr. Horu Hashimoto, a delegate from the International Affairs Bureau of Yokohama, the city that held APEC 2010, he mentioned that Yokohama City and Da Nang City have been close friends for a long period of time and have some similarities that can be shared with each other. Between 1950 and 1980, the population in Yokohama City had expanded from one million to three million, and Da Nang City's population is expected to take the same curve as Yokohama in the future. From the experience of Yokohama, he suggested that development in each infrastructure aspect is important, but creating a strong general package of the development in the city is also important to become a great city.
The representative of the OCC group introduced to the city a new tram system using some examples from Seoul, Nice and Houston. Such tram systems, according to him will help Da Nang become a developed and eco-friendly city.
Throughout this seminar, participants and investors learned the trends of the projects in Da Nang, and businesses that will have a unique chance to explore Da Nang's massive investment opportunities and prospects of cooperation promptly and effectively.
