Da Nang Sustainable City Development Project is Guaranteed on Schedule
On 4th April 2018, the Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee, Mr. Huynh Duc Tho had a meeting with the World Bank task team on the implementation progress of the Da Nang Sustainable City Development Project. Participating in the meeting were the leaders of the departments of: Planning and Investment, Transportation, Construction, Finance, Natural Resources and Environment; together with the Project Management Unit and Consultant Board.
Mr. Dang Duc Cuong, the World Bank's Senior Urban Specialist in Viet Nam – the project leader, mentioned that the project had achieved certain progress over the past six months. Technical support and capacity enhancement for staff of the Traffic Lights and Public Transport Management Centre (DATRAMAC) is well underway; the terms of reference for the feasibility study and safety assessment for Da Nang Railway Station Relocation and Integrated Urban Innovation Program are being finalized; transferred activities from the Da Nang Priority Infrastructure Investment Project (Component 5) have been fully completed with the effective operation of Son Tra Waste-Water Treatment Plant.
The task team also suggested postponing the construction of the second 800mm HDPE pipe from PS8.2 pumping station to Khue Dong Bridge and accelerating the construction of the D1800mm concrete pipeline from Khue Dong Bridge to Hoa Xuan Waste-Water Treatment Plant in order for Hoa Xuan Waste-Water Treatment Plant to operate better and satisfy environmental and social requirements. Besides, the task team confirmed support of the 6 new bus routes that Da Nang City expects to launch in July 2018.
Chairman Huynh Duc Tho highly appreciated the World Bank's efforts. He also pointed out issues that need to be addressed in the next six months and requested the related units to focus on addressing requests and suggestions from the World Bank. Also in the meeting, the task force proposed an invitation to experts of Da Nang City to attend a Workshop on sharing experiences in the building and development of the bus rapid transit (BRT) system to be held by the World Bank in coordination with CityNet in July 2018 in Korea.
